Tshedza Trust
The Tshedza Trust is the sole shareholder of NIH. Its sole beneficiaries are more than 200 000 members of the National Health and Allied Workers Union, NEHAWU. The beneficiaries are represented by the highest office bearers of the union as Trustees and additional external trustees.
It was constituted as a vehicle to create member benefit schemes and projects and to channel investment funds into member benefit schemes and projects.
To meet its mandate, Tshedza is channelling investment funds and dividends accrued from NIH and other NEHAWU investments into member benefit products. New member benefit products are being created, and existing products from existing NEHAWU activities, will be incorporated into the Trust.
The goals of the Tshedza trust are as follows:
- Drive and support a NEHAWU membership 'brand' and to act as the overall entity responsible for NEHAWU benefit schemes. This may involve consolidation and realignment of reporting structures associated with current member schemes and revision of current agreement with external service providers on existing member benefit products.
- Drive the management of the NEHAWU membership database. This would include but would not be limited to consolidating current activities around member recruitment and data capture so that the union can plan its member interventions holistically.
- Network all current schemes and act as a central reporting structure on the performance of the schemes to NEHAWU.
- Provide support and advice to NEHAWU on schemes and members in terms of marketing, membership liaison / member services, member information.
- Develop new member schemes and invest in the management of existing member schemes to ensure maximum benefit to NEHAWU members.
- Provide strategic direction and conceptual advice on membership recruitment campaigns and NEHAWU marketing activities.
