WELCOME TO NIH

NIH is a 100% black owned investment holding business with broad based beneficiaries.

The essence of our corporate strategy is:

  • exercising significant influence in investments that generate continuous cash flows and enhance a strong balance sheet,
  • private equity related investment deals,
  • a balanced investment portfolio – investing in a combination of high growth industries and stable, recession proof industries.

Sector focus:

  • resources,
  • health, safety and education,
  • financial services,
  • property and infrastructure,
  • food and agriculture,
  • media and technology.

NIH was birthed out of the corporate restructuring of Nehawu Investment Company ('NIC'), the original investment company that was established in 1997 by Tshedza Trust. NIC was positioned as an investment vehicle, to create value for union members of the National Education Health & Allied Workers Union, NEHAWU, by offering them benefits, and it grew from empowerment invitations.

In order to position the business for growth, NIH at the helm, was created as the holding business of a group of companies with numerous subsidiaries, with NIC being one of them.

The pillars of the revised corporate strategy are:

  • a strong balance sheet,
  • successful capital raising,
  • corporate governance structures to mitigate its investment risk,
  • implementation by a talented team of investment professionals and sector specialists.

NIH has invested in a dynamic team of highly skilled professionals which includes sector specialists, legal and investment specialists.

NIH's revised corporate strategy has been re-inforced with the re-branding of its corporate identity.

We have a number of equity investments as follows:

  • Exxaro Resources
  • African Rainbow Minerals
  • Sanlam
  • Neotel
  • Nehawu Securities
  • Bantu Investments
  • ESOP Shop
